2016 Whanganui River Annual

$10.00

We, the Friends of the Whanganui River have had a good year. Our membership has increased, our finances are healthy thanks to our charity auction held in November, we have given lectures in the Davis Theatre, and have a regular stall in the Whanganui River Traders Market on Saturdays.

We are now an Incorporated Society, which makes us a legal entity and in consequence have access to sources of funding that we otherwise would not have been able to tap. With more funds at our disposal, we are delighted to be able to print our Annual in full colour, a step which
will greatly enhance its appearance and value.

As usual, you will find some very interesting stories in this edition, dating from the long gone past to the present, and ranging from the top of the river at Taumarunui to the bottom of it. I always need stories for it – the Annual is very greedy in this respect and if you have one, or can direct
me, the Editor, towards one I will be truly thankful.

You can’t write’ A ghost writer, and we have one, can compensate for that. You may not get a Pulitzer Prize for your story, but you will see it in print. What should we print in the Annual? From the beginning, there has been a strong historical content, and we must continue doing it, as many of the stories that we get and have printed are unique, and if we don’t record them, they never will be.

We’ll also print stories about current events as they too, will soon be history.
